Commidity Manager – Machine Components & Metals

  • JOB SUMMARY


    The Commodity Manager will lead the procurement and management of various commodities across multiple operating companies within the industrial manufacturing organization.  Commodities may include: 1) Metals CM – machine components, raw materials, and fabrications / assemblies and/or 2) Electronics CM – Including PLC and automation components, cables and wiring, batteries/fuses/connectors and motor components like VFD’s encoders, motors and stabilizers.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing advanced category strategies that drive significant cost savings, ensure supply chain excellence, and support our overarching business objectives. This role demands a profound understanding of industrial components, negotiation methods, cost modeling of related commodities, and exceptional leadership skills to manage executive leadership and operational leadership throughout our operating companies.

  • KEY OBJECTIVES


    • Strategic Category Leadership: Develop and execute sophisticated category strategies for assigned commodities, aligning with organizational goals and market trends. Lead initiatives to optimize the supply chain and enhance procurement performance across all operating companies.
    • Executive Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and engage with top-tier suppliers to build strategic partnerships. Conduct high-level supplier performance reviews and manage relationships to ensure the highest standards of quality, delivery, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Advanced Contract Negotiation: Lead complex negotiations for contracts and agreements with suppliers, focusing on securing highly favorable terms and conditions. Ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
    • In-Depth Market Analysis: Conduct comprehensive market research and analysis to stay ahead of industry trends, pricing, and supply chain dynamics. Utilize insights to make strategic decisions and adjust strategies as needed.
    • Cost Optimization: Implement advanced cost-saving strategies and initiatives to achieve and exceed budget targets. Monitor and analyze spending patterns, and identify opportunities for significant cost reduction and process improvement.
    • Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate closely with senior engineering, production, and other internal teams to understand their requirements and ensure that procurement strategies support their needs. Facilitate effective communication and coordination between different operating companies.
    • Risk Mitigation: Identify and proactively manage potential risks in the supply chain related to machine components and metals. Develop and implement robust risk mitigation strategies to ensure continuity of supply and minimize disruptions.
    • Performance Reporting: Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to category management. Provide regular updates and strategic insights to senior management on category performance, market conditions, and strategic initiatives.
    • Compliance and Best Practices: Ensure adherence to company policies, industry regulations, and best practices in procurement and supply chain management. Continuously seek opportunities to enhance processes and drive operational excellence.
  • ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS


    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CPP, CPM) is highly preferred.

     

    Experience

    • 10-12 years of experience in category management or procurement within an industrial manufacturing environment, with a strong focus on machine components and metals.
    • Experience working in a matrix organization is preferred.

     

    Skills

    • Proven track record in developing and executing advanced category strategies.
    • Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent understanding of industrial components, metals, and supply chain dynamics.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
    • Proficiency in procurement software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.

    Working Conditions
